WAGS finishes
second in nationals
The young 12-and-under Westlake Agoura Girls Softball Association team
finished second in the Amateur Softball Association western national
championship in Midland, Texas.
Bonita Valley of Chula Vista swept WAGS 2-1 and 7-3 for the
championship.
WAGS defeated West Texas 4-0 and Orcutt 7-3 in pool play. WAGS was
seeded No. 1 in bracket play and had a first-round bye. Westlake Agoura
defeated the West Texas Extreme 8-0. Jamie Depippo pitched a no-hitter.
WAGS defeated Texas state champion Lil Lady Lobos of Monaghans, Texas,
8-0.
To reach the title game, WAGS defeated Peninsula of Point Loma 5-1, the
Rocklin Thundercats 7-1 and Bonita Valley 10-4. WAGS needed an eight-run
sixth inning to defeat Bonita Valley. Kelsey Haines had a key hit early,
Depippo had a bunt and Michelle Redding provided a sacrifice for an early
lead. Christie Langlois, Nicole Leonard and Carly Silliman had key hits.
Bonita Valley defeated Laguna Niguel 16-1 to reach the championship
game.
Westlake Agoura features eight players who can return next season while
four others will move up to the 14-and-under division.
More softball championships: Hart Gold won the 10-and-under ASA West B
National Championship at St. Louis. Hart was 6-0 and from the Western
District. South Huntington Beach was second at 7-2. Moorpark tied for 13th
place with a 3-2 record.
