The Class B Western National Tournaments ended today and with it, our 2012 season ends. Registration for the new season will be here before you know it so mark your calendar now for November, 2012!

Saturday, May 12th, 2012 8:00pm All-Star Season

The 2012 All-Star season has begun! Each of the 9 All-Star teams will compete in 5 or more tournaments this summer. They are listed on the All-Star Schedule page. Come on out and show your support by attending some of the games.

Another thing you can do to show your support is watch for and attend any of a number of the team fundraisers. Each player has to raise enough to take care of all the expenses. We can all help simply by gettting our car washed or having dinner at any of the participating restaurants on the fund raising night. Please watch for these events on our Facebook page.

Sunday, April 29th, 2012 6:10pm Note to our Volunteers from the Volunteer Coordinator

To all that were volunteers this year I would like to say a big "THANK YOU". We had over 230 parents step up and give their time to make there child(ren)'s experience a great one at BV. All background checks are done (I just received final batch of cards yesterday). For every background check, I received an ID card that is good for all ASA leagues for 2012. I will be giving out the remaining cards at closing day ceremonies at the equipment check-in. If you would like your card come by and we'll give it to you.

Once again, thank you for volunteering.

Friday, April 27th, 2012 8:45pm BVGASA Board Member Elections

Board Member positions are for one year - 1 September through 31 August. We hold an election every year during the Closing Ceremonies and have meetings every month. Board Members are dedicated parents and other community volunteers - no one gets paid. We mainly do this to help ensure that our children have a great experience playing an organized sport in a safe and friendly environment within our community. The Board Member positions and the tasks they perform are listed in the Bylaws. You can click the link for the Bylaws in the navigation pane on the left to see them.

There is an old saying that Softball, like its sister sport baseball, is a fan's game made better by statistics. Here's some for you: We had over 650 girls registered and playing ball this season. On average, each player is a member of a family of 5 people. That's close to 3,500 community members, all having fun at the ball fields and parks. Look around the next time you are out at the park - people of all ages relaxed, smiling, socializing, all fans of our sport. It takes a lot of organization to make this all work and it is the board members year round efforts and many other volunteers during the season, including you, that get it done. If you can and want to do more, consider becoming a Bonita Valley Girls ASA Board Member.

Anyone interested in applying for a board member position, please contact our Secretary Julie with your name and the position you are interested in. She will get your name on the ballot.

Wednesday, April 25th, 2012 9:51pm To Team Managers From the Equipment Coordinator

Equipment return is scheduled for May 5 (Closing Ceremonies) next to the snack bar starting at 8:00AM, with a break during the Closing Ceremonies. Please make sure to get your bag(s) turned in and checked off by Ray Collier or a Designated Assistant in the drop off location. Failure to return all assigned equipment, including practice and game balls, may affect your chances of managing a team next season. Managers with games scheduled on May 5 need to return their equipment bags immediately following the completion of the games. If you are unable to return your equipment on May 5, please make arrangements with Ray Collier via email at rrazor88@yahoo.com, please list your name, team name and division in the Subject line. Managers, if you can place practice and game balls in a separate plastic bag it will help expedite the return process and be greatly appreciated.

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012 6:43am Big League and Mini-Minor Playoffs!

It's time for the playoffs! The Big League and Mini-Minor divisions will end their regular season on Saturday, 21 April, and begin the playoffs on Monday, 23 April at 5:00pm. They end with a Champion in each division on 5 May. These are double elimination tournaments and the game assignments are based on where the team finished their season in the standings. Seedings is first the winning percentage, then Head-to-head, minimum runs allowed, and maximum runs scored. Brackets with seeding assignments are available here and will be updated as the season ends and again as the games are played. Friday, January 6th, 2012 7:13am Fundraisers Keep Registration Fees Down

One of the things we do to keep the registration fees under control is fundraising. We don't burden you with many because we have some great organizers that always do a fantastic job! As members of the league, we can all help with this. One highlight of last years Opening Ceremonies were all of the team baskets that were raffled off. They were themed baskets so all of the items in a particular basket followed the same idea. We saw movie baskets with DVDs; game baskets with XBox and Nintendo DS games; picnic and barbeque baskets and food! Lots of great looking food items and restaurant gift cards.

The goal is for each team to put a basket together, organized by the Team Moms, and have it at the Opening Ceremonies. This year the ceremony is a week earlier than in the past so time to put these together will be short. Please start thinking about a theme so when you have your first team meeting, ideas can be shared. More details on the Team and Team Mom meetings to follow....

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012 10:39pm Team Manager Volunteers

Saturday 14 January, 2012 is the deadline for submitting volunteer paperwork for Team Manager. If you are interested in this very competitive position complete the volunteer form on-line by logging in and using the Register to Volunteer link. Please bring the completed form to either of the final two On-Site Registration events, 7 January or 14 January.

Managers will be chosen between the 14th and 17th with the player draft starting on 19 January, 2012.

Other volunteer positions are also available such as Team Coach, Team Mom, Parent Assistants, etc. The forms for these positions can be turned in anytime, they do not currently have a deadline.

As a reminder, all volunteer positions (anyone interacting with the players) are required to submit to an ASA background check. These are initiated by you completing/submitting the volunteer form and paying the service fee of $10.00. The league cannot absorb this cost.

Wednesday, December 14th, 2011 10:06pm Early Bird Discount Rates Extended

We have extended the Early Bird special discounted registration fees. The deadline of 14 December 2011 has been changed to 7 January 2012! This is also the first day of player skill assessments (for those players that need it) so it will be a very busy morning at Discovery Fields.

League Volunteers:
BVGASA is a non-profit organization that survives on the volunteer time and dedication of its members, specifically the parents and businesses of the community. Again this year we will need volunteers for Team Managers, Coaches, Team Mom's, Parent Helpers, etc. (anyone who interacts with the players). If you have the desire to be a part of this season's effort in one of these capacities, you will need a new ASA background check completed as this is an annual requirement. If you get it started now you will be cleared prior to the beginning of the season.

Please login to this web site if you have a BVGASA account, or follow the same link to register for one, and complete and print out the ASA volunteer Background Check Form. A blank copy of this form is also available on the Downloads page.

Bring a copy of this completed form and a $10.00 submittal fee to any of the registration dates listed above. This completed process will allow you to join in on league on-field activities like the game and practice fields. Without this, adults are not allowed on any of the fields during league activity times.

Saturday, October 15th, 2011 3:46pm. Image Note from the League President

Concerning the City of Chula Vista Maintenance Fees for the use of the Sports Fields

Thanks for all of your efforts to let the city council know that we did not agree with the proposed field usage fees. Your letters and emails really were effective in having our voices heard.

Good news, the Youth Sports Council and the city Parks and Rec have worked out a solution to the financial problem to maintain the fields. It is a combination of a reasonable fee, which everybody will pay, and the "sweat equity" of each league to help maintain the fields they use. This is a fair solution one we support and now can move forward and get ready for the upcoming season. I look forward to another great season of softball at Discovery.

Friday, October 14th, 2011 9:43pm. Updated League Rules for the 2012 Season

Updated for the 2012 season, the League Rules are complete and posted right here on the Web Site. Look them over whenever you like. Here are some important highlights:

Player Divisions
If BVGASA has less than 72 players sign up for the 14U Division, those that do sign up will be combined again with the Minors Division to form a “Big League” Division.

Snack Bar Rule Image
All teams and parents are required to help in the snack bar. This is not news to anyone yet it continues to be a problem. Please don’t assume that someone will cover your shift or there are more than enough parents signed up. Past experiences with this has led to very unpopular results such as Snack Bar closings, parents who should have been relieved stay and end up missing their child’s game or other personal commitment, or the Snack Bar Coordinators, already volunteering a great deal of their time for other tasks for the Snack Bar, cover it. Any way it has worked out has always resulted in unhappy people.

Efforts to fix this over the years have not worked so there are new League Rules being instituted to get it done:

“Any T-Ball or Rookie team that fails to make their scheduled time or make arrangements in advance with the Snack Bar Coordinator will not be awarded team trophies at the end of the year. Any Mini-Minor, Minor, Major or Big League team failing to show up will not be allowed to participate in the Playoffs at the end of the season”.

Part of the Registration process this year will be a form requiring a signature that you acknowledge your obligations to support the Snack Bar. Please make this commitment a priority. These penalties will hurt the entire team so don’t go there on this one.

Age Appropriate Division Assignments
ALL players must play in their designated age division. The only exception to this: A player deemed a safety issue by the Safety Officer and Division Coordinator will be forwarded to the Executive Board for possible approval to the next higher level.
