Tuesday, August 6th, 2013 1:07pm 2013 BVGASA All Stars are Big at Nationals!

Congratulations to our BVGASA 10U - 14U Gold All Star teams as they complete the 2013 season with strong finishes at the 2013 ASA National Championships!

Our 14U team made the trip to Stockton, in Northern California, for the ASA Fast Pitch Girls 14B Western Tournament to finish 3rd in a field of 27 highly competetive 14 and under teams.

The 12U Gold team headed West to Peoria, Arizona to compete in the ASA Fast Pitch Girls B 12B Western Tournament. Our 12's finished the week long tournament in 2nd place out of a field of over 45 teams!

The BVGASA 10U Gold team also went to Peoria, Arizona for the ASA Fast Pitch Girls B 10B Western Tournament. These ladies competed hard and finished in a very strong 9th place.

Saturday, May 4th, 2013 4:18pm Congratulations to the 2013 BVGASA All Stars!

This year Bonita Valley Girls ASA is sponsoring eight (8) All Star teams from 14U to 8U. The players selected successfully competed in a grueling tryout and have been notified of their selection. These ladies will compete in approximaitely seven (7) All Star tournaments this summer to represent our league and do their best to bring home the hardware! Saturday, May 4th, 2013 2:57pm Introducing the 2013/2014 BV Board of Directors

The annual election for the next years Board of Directors was held today during Closing Ceremonies and right up until 12:00 noon. Congratulations to those that were elected! The big winner this year was the league! We had a lot of community support on this one with a record number of members voting and a strong list of members willing to donate their time and efforts towards the betterment of the league. Thanks very much everyone!

Tuesday, April 30th, 2013 2:23pm Closing Ceremonies

Bonita Valley Girls ASA will be celebrating the end of a very successful Recreation Season this Saturday, 4 May 2013 at Discovery Fields starting promptly at 9:00am. Every player from every team is expected, each wearing there rec team jerseys! You will want to plan to be there early because parking will be a challenge. We have an exemption from the city for the day allowing us to park on both the North and South sides of Buena Vista Way but that still won't be enough. Carpool if you can and arrive early!

There will be a DJ, vendors, some special guests and speakers (very short speaking times) and other little fun surprizes and the Snack Bar will be open with a full menu! We will also be holding the Bonita Valley Girls ASA 2014 Board Member Elections so please be sure to cast your vote!

Following Closing Ceremonies, starting at 11:00am, will be the Championship games for the Upper Divisions. The Majors (14U) division is playing on Lolita's Field, the Minors (12U) Division will be on Coldwell Banker Field and the Mini-Minor (10U) Division will play on La Bella Cafe Field. Come make a day of it and we will see you there!

Wednesday, April 24th, 2013 2:41pm 2013 All Star Managers Announced

Congratulations to the selected 2013 All Star Managers! These managers will lead our All Star teams as they represent Bonita Valley Girls ASA throughout the All Star season this summer. Each Manager successfully met the requirements of the application process and completed interviews with the BVGASA Selection Committee. They were selected from a larger group of experienced and dedicated individuals. All candidates were well qualified and these are the ones selected:

8U Gold: Marcus Alfaro
8U Silver: David Ayala (announced on May 3rd)
10U Gold: Scott Hill
10U Silver: Jesse Lozano
10U Bronze: Manny Martinez (announced on May 3rd)
12U Gold: Kiko Palacios

Eight Managers have been selected to lead the teams we are sure will be fielded. Once tryouts are held on Thursday, 2 May 2013, we will have a better idea of the need of the league and may field additional teams.

Friday, April 19th, 2013 2:25pm 2013 All Star Tryouts

The 2013 All Star Tryouts will be held at Discovery Field on Thursday, May 2, 2013 starting at 4:30pm. Registration will begin at 4:00pm and we are also having a Pre-Registration period the evening before with a table set up near the Snack Bar on Wednesday, 1 May, 2013 from 6:00pm-8:00pm.

Due to scheduling conficts with Closing Ceremonies and the ASA May 1st All Star season start date, we are having the All Star tryouts during the week this year on Thursday, May 2. 14U will tryout at Discovery Field #1, 12U will tryout at Discovery #2, 10U will tryout at Discovery #3, and 8U at the Discovery T-Ball field.

Any parent interested in having their daughter tryout must register and sign an all star agreement prior to trying out. Here is a link to the All Star flier and the All Star Agreement:

Tuesday, April 9th, 2013 2:18pm 2014 BVGASA Board Member Elections

As with every year, we will be holding the Bonita Valley Girls ASA Board Member Elections at Closing Ceremonies. Board Member positions are for one year, from 1 September through 31 August. Board Members are dedicated parents and community volunteers - no one gets paid. We mainly do this to help ensure that our children, and yours, have a great experience playing an organized sport in a safe and friendly environment within our community. The Board Member positions and the tasks they perform are listed in the Bylaws listed under the BVGASA tab on the menu above.

This year BVGASA had 622 players from 4 to 14, playing 426 games and Playoff tournaments for 3 of the age divisions. We will field about 9 All Star teams and conduct all needed maintenance on 6 fields. It takes a lot of community involvement to make this all work. BVGASA Board Members meet every month and work with other volunteers during the season, including you, that get it done. If you can and want to do more to support this effort, consider becoming a Bonita Valley Girls ASA Board Member.

Anyone interested in applying for a board member position, please contact the league Secretary Julie with your name and the position you are interested in by 25 April. She will get your name on the ballot.

Monday, April 8th, 2013 7:41pm 2013 All Star Managers

The All Star season begins in very early May with tryouts and the first tournament starts on the 17th so we are beginning the application process for individuals interested in becoming an All Star Manager. We will need 9 or 10 managers to lead the following teams:

Gold Teams
8U, 10U, 12U and 14U

Silver Teams
8U, 10U, 12U and possibly 14U

Bronze Teams 10U and 12U

If you are interested in managing one of these teams email a resume with your coaching/manager experience, contact information, and which team you are interested in managing. Please email this information or any questions you have to Jeff Kruse. All manager applications must be recieved by April 19. Interviews will be conducted by the selection committee the week of the 20th, and announcements made on or after April 24th.

The selected manager needs to make a commitment for all practices and tournaments. If a full commitment cannot be made, the All-Star Manager should not apply for the position.

We have changed your photo viewing experience with the event pictures on our Photo's Page by changing it to a slideshow. It will run on it's own but you can pause, go forward or go backwards as you like. We think it makes it a lot easier and more entertaining this way. Give it a try. Sunday, March 3rd, 2013 10:23am Bonita Valley Golf Tournament

Bonita Valley is sponsoring a golf tournament on 5 April at the Salt Creek Golf Club located at 525 Hunte Parkway, in Chula Vista. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and we need your help to make it work. It is a four person scramble tourney that includes Green Fees, Range Balls, prizes and more! Here is the flier for the event. Come on out and have some fun with your BV family and help to support our league. Proceeds from the Golf Tournament will go to league scholarships, more field improvements and much needed new equipment. To register or for more information contact Jay Murguia.

Saturday, February 16th, 2013 6:00pm Picture Day at Bonita Valley

We will have two Picture Days this year and both will be at Discovery Fields. These are on consecutive Saturday's, 23 February, and 2 March. The schedule is posted on the Team Mom's page, on the Document Downloads page, and here is a link to the 2013 Picture Day schedule as well.

The team names and team rosters are now posted here on the web site. Also, on the Roster page is the team schedule. Click the Recreation Teams link in the Recreation League tab on the menu above to see all the team info! Even the standings are up. Check them out.

As you have noticed on the team schedules, we have renamed our playing fields to recognize our Field Sponsors. For your convenience, here are the names associated with what they used to be called:

Lolita's Field was Discovery #1
Coldwell Banker Field was Discovery #2
La Bella Field was Discovery #3
Point Mortgage Field was Kohl Field (T-Ball field)
CVC West is Chula Vista Community Park - West Field (next to Eastlake High School)
CVC East is Chula Vista Community Park - East Field (next to Eastlake High School)

Thursday, February 7th, 2013 4:18pm Opening Ceremonies

Opening Ceremonies are scheduled for February 16, 2013, at 9:00am. They are being held at Discovery Fields in front of the Snack Bar. All 635 players are expected and they will be in their new uniforms. Also attending will be a number of former Bonita Valley players that now play at Bonita Vista and Mater Dei CIF High Schools as well as some High School graduates headed for college on a free ride! They will be talking with our players and available for pictures. Chula Vista's Mayor Cox will be at the festivities as well!

One of our great sponsors, Sprouts, is providing all the fixings and workers to prepare a full menu of BBQ cuisine for you to choose from. All proceeds will go to the league for a truck load of Safety Masks! Thanks very much to Coach John Cordova for this wonderful gift!

The city has given us the go ahead to park on the east side of Buena Vista Way which will help with the parking but you have to come early or you will definitely be late! For those team parents that haven't completed their volunteer registration, we will also have a volunteer table available for you.

The number of teams per division have been decided. It appears to be another record season with well over 600 girls signed up to play softball! Here is the breakdown:

T-Ball (4 & 5 year olds): 10 teams
Super 6'ers (6 year olds): 6 teams
Rookies (7 & 8 year olds): 14 teams
Mini-Minors (9 & 10 year olds): 12 teams
Minors (11 & 12 year olds): 10 teams
Majors (13 & 14 year olds): 8 teams

Sunday, January 6th, 2013 9:43pm Player Draft and Notifications

This seasons player draft will be held the evenings of 23 and 24 January. In the days that follow, all players will be notified by their new managers that they were selected and when and where their first team meeting will be. Practices will start shortly after that and the first games will be played on 16 February right after Opening Ceremonies!

Friday, December 14th, 2012 7:01pm The 2013 Players Clinic

We are now accepting reservations to the 2013 Players Clinic. Following last years great event, we are again holding the clinic at the Southwestern College softball facility and it will be run by the college coaches and players!

The clinic will be held this year on 27 January, so it is coming right up. If you are not registered for this clinic, you can send an e-mail to Laura Speyrer and then pay the fee ($20.00 per player) on the day of the event. This will be an age specific event as follows:

4-8 year olds: 9:00am - 11:00am
9 Years old and up: 11:30am - 1:30pm

Thursday, November 29th, 2012 9:13am Waiting on the High School Team?

A note to all 14 year olds, their parents and guardians. Are you are on the fence whether or not to register at Bonita Valley this season because you are planning on trying out for your High School Softball team but obviously don't know if you will make that team? You don't want to get caught not playing on any team! We have a solution for you: You can register to play here at Bonita Valley Girls ASA and if you make the High School team you will be given a full refund minus a $15.00 fee for the BV uniform that has to be ordered and paid for prior to the start of the season.

Sunday, October 21th, 2012 7:18am 2013 Recreation Season Registration Information

Registration for the 2013 Bonita Valley Girls Softball Recreation season is here! It begins November 10, 2012 with the opening of on-line registration. This year, all registrations must be completed on-line either in advance or at an on-site registration event. As always, you have the option to pay your fees on-line as you register or at one of the on-site events (just select cash as your payment option when you register).

The second part of the registration process is to bring one copy of your registration form, a copy of your payment confirmation e-mail (if you paid on-line), birth certificate for your player(s), and your fees if you have not already paid. The birth certificate will be returned to you immediately. At the on-site event you will be required to sign the personal liability waiver and accept your responsibility to work the Snack Bar at least once throughout the season (the schedule will come out at a later date).

Please read this notice carefully as new information has been added. For your convenience, here is a printer friendly version of this notice.

Division Age Groups:

T-Ball (6U): Ages 4 – 6 years
**Super 6'ers (6): Age 6
Rookies (8U): Ages 7 – 8 years
Mini-Minors (10U): Ages 9 – 10 years
***Minors (12U): Ages 11 – 12 years
***Majors (14U): Ages 13 – 14 years
**Super 6'ers are for 6 year olds that are looking for a more challenging game. The rules will be similar to the Rookie Division, taking away the Tee during the games. This division will be created if there is enough interest.
***Providing there are 72 or more players registered for the Majors division. Otherwise the Minors and Majors divisions will be combined into a Big Leagues division.

On-Site Registration Dates:

All fees are due when you attend an on-site registration event if you did not pay them when you registered on-line. Here are the dates and locations for on-site registration:

November 28 6:00pm – 8:00pm: Bonita Vista High School Cafeteria (751 Otay Lakes Rd, Chula Vista)
December 12 6:00pm – 8:00pm: Bonita Vista High School Cafeteria
**January 5 9:00am – 12:00pm: Discovery Fields
**January 12 9:00am – 12:00pm: Discovery Fields
**Skill Assessments will also happen on these dates. See the Skill Assessment notes below.

Registration Fees:

City Maintenance Fee Surcharge
This fee is here to stay. There will be a $25.00 surcharge assessed per registered player for the City of Chula Vista Maintenance Fees. This fee is imposed by the city to cover the expenses of maintaining the fields used by the sports leagues.

Season Registration Fees
These are the Regular Recreation Season Registration fees for the 2013 Recreation Season. These fees are good through January 12, 2013. All paperwork and fees not yet paid must be completed and submitted by this date.

First Child – $125.00
Second Child – $100.00
T-Ball and Super 6'ers – $85.00
** ##Third Child – Free
**Third child is defined as a member of the immediate family only and is for the lowest price registration.
##The City Maintenance Fee Surcharge of $25.00 will still be required for your 3rd child registering to play for the season.

Skill Assessments:

When attending a Skills Assessment we strongly recommend bringing a glove, cleats, bat, helmet and a protective face mask if your player is going out for pitcher. If your player is going out for catcher, also bring catchers gear. If you do not have any of this equipment, loaners will be available.

- PITCHERS AND CATCHERS MUST BE EVALUATED: Any player wanting to be considered a pitcher or catcher this season must be assessed (all divisions except T-Ball and Rookies).
- Prior Position Players moving up from the Rookies Division must be evaluated.
- New Players to the league going into Mini-Minors, Minors or Majors Divisions must also be evaluated.

Players that fall into one of these categories who do not attend a skills assessment will not be placed on a team during the draft. Here are the dates and locations:

Saturday, January 5th 9:00am - 1:00pm: Discovery Park
Saturday, January 12th 9:00am - 1:00pm: Discovery Park

League Volunteers:

BVGASA is a non-profit organization that survives on the volunteer time and dedication of its members, specifically the parents and businesses of the community. Again this year we will need volunteers for Team Managers, Coaches, Team Mom's, Parent Helpers, etc. (anyone who interacts with the players). If you have the desire to be a part of this season's effort in one of these capacities, you will need a new ASA background check completed as this is an annual requirement. If you get it started now you will be cleared prior to the beginning of the season.

Bring a copy of this completed form and a $10.00 processing fee to any of the on-site registration event dates listed above. This completed process will allow you to join in on league on-field activities like the game and practice fields. Without this, adults are not allowed on any of the fields during league activity times.
